Small seeds, such as oilseed rape, are generally challenging in no-till conditions, as they require a very shallow seedbed and fine tilth coverage for even germination. Oilseed rape is also highly sensitive to fertiliser-induced seed burn. Seed Hawk creates an ideal seedbed structure on uncompacted soil with safe fertiliser separation, ensuring quick germination and strong plant development.
Seed Hawk is equipped with a double-acting tine coulter, featuring two separate knives that follow the ground contours. Combined with a frame that adapts to the field terrain, this ensures excellent depth precision and even germination. A uniform crop, growing and maturing evenly across the field, is essential for effective crop management throughout the growing season. A Seed Hawk field is characterised by its perfect green lines, where every plant enjoys the same conditions — an ideal start for a healthy crop.
Tine coulters are an ideal solution for creating fine tilth in the seed slot. The Seed Hawk knives ensure a clean, hygienic seed slot free from residues, preventing hair-pinning. The Seed Hawk tine coulter features two knives, with the fertiliser placed via the first knife, separated from the seed but close enough for quick access. The second knife goes more shallow a little to the side. While placing the seed and fertiliser, the knives perform a shallow, focused tillage operation where it is needed most to ensure crop performance. This focused micro-strip tillage minimises the risk of yield variations while protecting the crop from erosion and soil structure damage.

To trigger seed growth, the right temperature must be reached in the seed furrow. The furrow created by the tine coulter acts similarly to strip tillage, where the strip warms up faster than the surrounding soil, speeding up the germination process. To ensure field performance when seeding directly in heavy crop residues or after cover crops, the Seed Hawk knife coulter can be complemented with a front disc as an option. The front disc ensures thorough residue incorporation and can be adjusted independently. This versatility enhances seeding in cover crops, wheat stubble, and light soils, extending the machine’s range in high-residue conditions.
The fertiliser knife has a strong forward angle and acts similarly to a cultivator point, though without the mixing capabilities. It lifts moist soil and pushes larger clods to the side, leaving fine tilth in the seed slot. Its soil-penetrating ability ensures maximum depth with minimal weight requirements, saving diesel.
The seed knife, with its backward angle, carves a shelf from the sidewall and dresses it with fine tilth. The fertiliser is covered with soil before placing the seed on the shelf, ensuring perfect separation. This creates a barrier between the seed and fertiliser, preventing fertiliser burn and promoting seed-to-soil contact and fast germination. The lateral separation ensures no seed is placed on top of the fertiliser, avoiding broken capillarity and moisture competition. The distance is short enough to allow roots quick access to nutrients.
The Seed Hawk press wheel seals moisture in the fertiliser row while preventing capping over the seed, ensuring ideal seed-to-soil contact. Positioned behind the knives, it runs in tilled soil, maintaining consistent seed depth and ensuring smooth, precise operation.
No-till seed drills have traditionally been a choice between a disc or tine coulter. The tine coulter's main disadvantage has been its inability to cope with heavy residues due to blockages. The front disc on Seed Hawk changes this.
By combining the versatility of a disc coulter with the microclimate created by the dual-knife tine coulter, Seed Hawk offers the best of both worlds. With the front disc, the Seed Hawk 600-900C can extend its range into high-residue conditions. In some situations, the front disc can also allow for an increase in speed.
The front disc is mounted with a separate hydraulic cylinder, allowing it to be raised or lowered independently of the tine coulter. It is designed for a long working life, featuring a V-55 specially hardened Swedish steel disc and maintenance-free bearings. The disc runs in a linkage, making it insensitive to turns. The linkage is mounted with conical bushings to minimise wear.
The Seed Hawk features a 7,000-litre hopper divided into three compartments. Each compartment can be used to place product in either the seed or fertiliser knife. This also allows the mixing of two products in the same airstream. For example, a starter fertiliser, such as phosphorus, can be placed with the seed for quick access, boosting germination and root development.
The optional stainless steel filling auger can fill the hoppers at a capacity of 50 m³/h.
By controlling each row individually, every seed is provided with optimal conditions for growth. Consistent contour-following ability is crucial in no-till operations where variable field conditions are present, and the Seed Hawk coulter excels in this area.
The tine coulter follows the ground independently by pivoting at the frame. With a contour-following range of +/- 20 cm, each independent opener ensures consistent seed depth, regardless of terrain.

The frame of the 8- and 9-metre versions has three sections, while the 6-metre version has two sections. This allows for sectional shut-off of seed and fertiliser in segments smaller than 3 metres, saving inputs. Additionally, the system enables the lifting of sections to avoid unnecessary ground disturbance at headlands. The system can be operated manually via the iPad or automatically through the ISOBUS Task Controller.

The iPad-based Väderstad E-Control system wirelessly connects to the Väderstad machine, enabling full access to its functions and data. You benefit from user-friendly remote setup and calibration, as well as real-time monitoring and control. E-Control is a fully portable control system, ready to be used whenever and wherever required. When calibrating the Väderstad machine, you can take the portable iPad out of the tractor and control the calibration from outside.
